Biography

Kuir ë Garang is a South-Sudanese-Canadian living in Calgary, Alberta. Kuir was born in war-torn Sudan. As an aftermath of Sudanese civil war in Sudan, Kuir was forced (with his family) to seek refuge in Ethiopia at the beginning of 1987.

Following the fall of the then communist government in Ethiopia, Kuir moved back to Sudan in 1991. Having lived in different displaced camps in Sudan from 1991-1994 amid increased insecurity, Kuir moved to Kakuma Refugee camp in 1995 to continue his studies.

He holds a Bachelor in Philosophy from McGill University in Montreal. He is currently doing graduate work in philosophy to further his studies in the same field. His interest in philosophy grows by the day.

However, Kuir's then being on constant move and his experiences in different cultural environments fueled his greater desire to appreciate the thoughts formed by such experiences. He now writes fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

Kuir's first published work is a poetry collection Carcass Valley now available in paperback in Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other online retail stores. Carcass Valley is both a celebration and show of defiance towards his experiences. The book is dedicated to his father (Garang Kuir), whom he lost in 2003. Kuir has also published a novel, Trifles (Watch Introduction), which is a fictional survey of multiculturalism in Canada.
